Reports to: SEO Strategy Lead
Why this role exists
Every client account needs someone who can own the SEO work directly — audits, strategy, content planning, and reporting — without needing to be walked through the fundamentals. The SEO Strategist is that person: an experienced individual contributor who manages their own portfolio of client accounts end-to-end, working closely with the SEO Strategy Lead on strategy and complex technical issues, while taking full responsibility for day-to-day execution and results.
This role is for someone who enjoys:
- Running a client account independently, from audit through reporting
- Getting hands-on with technical SEO, content strategy, and on-page work in the same week
- Communicating clearly with clients and internal teams without needing everything escalated
- Building toward a lead or strategy-owner role over time
If you're someone who wants real ownership over your own accounts, with a clear growth path toward more strategic and client-facing responsibility, this role gives you room to prove that.
What you'll really be doing
1. Client Account Ownership
- Manage a portfolio of client SEO accounts — from onboarding and audit through execution and reporting
- Develop SEO strategies aligned to each client's business objectives and competitive landscape, in coordination with the SEO Strategy Lead
- Conduct technical, on-page, content, and off-page audits, and translate findings into prioritized action plans
- Support SEO planning for website launches, redesigns, and migrations, ensuring rankings and indexing are protected
2. Technical SEO Execution
- Identify and resolve crawlability, indexation, redirect, schema, and site architecture issues
- Optimize Core Web Vitals, page speed, and mobile performance
- Collaborate with the development team to implement SEO recommendations correctly and on schedule
- Monitor technical SEO health across active accounts using tools like Screaming Frog, Google Search Console, and Ahrefs
- Escalate complex technical problems to the SEO Strategy Lead with clear context
3. Content & On-Page Strategy
- Build keyword-focused content strategies and detailed content briefs for your accounts
- Conduct keyword research, intent mapping, topic clustering, and competitor gap analysis
- Optimize meta tags, heading structure, internal linking, and page architecture
- Work closely with content writers and designers to embed SEO requirements from the brief stage
4. Reporting & Client Communication
- Track and report on organic traffic, keyword rankings, conversions, and engagement metrics across your accounts
- Produce clear, structured performance reports connecting SEO activity to business outcomes
- Participate in client calls and status updates, with the SEO Strategy Lead present for high-stakes or strategic conversations
- Flag risks, opportunities, and algorithm-related impacts to the SEO Strategy Lead proactively
5. AI-Driven SEO & AEO Support
- Apply AEO practices — structured data, entity optimization, FAQ and schema markup — under guidance from the SEO Strategy Lead
- Use AI tools for keyword clustering, content optimization, gap analysis, and reporting efficiency
- Stay current on algorithm updates, AI search developments, and emerging SEO practices
6. Cross-Team Collaboration
- Work with the development team on technical implementation, communicating requirements clearly
- Coordinate with Project Managers to ensure SEO tasks are properly scoped and tracked within timelines
- Collaborate with designers to ensure UX decisions don't compromise SEO
- Support the SEO Strategy Lead on documentation, SOPs, and process improvements
Who will thrive in this role

- You're comfortable moving between technical audits, content strategy, and client updates
- You communicate clearly and proactively, flagging issues before they become problems
- You want to build toward more strategic ownership and client-facing responsibility over time
